Become a Live- In Caregiver In Canada

 Demand for Live In Care-givers

With the recent change in Immigration laws November, 2014 the Live In Caregiver Program , that was considered the only program, is now divided into 2 segments that comprises of caring for children and people with medical conditions. Living in Canada is not easy. The people in this country are workaholic and they take support of skilled people in order to manage their daily activities. Those who have young children including infants and toddlers highly demand day care or live in care-giver assistance. Likewise senior citizens or elders who need help with their day to day life also seek support from Live In caregivers.  

People work in highly committed work culture and sometimes it becomes hard to sit back home and take care of their children and parents during weekdays. Therefore, the Live In Caregivers support such people and hence are paid in return for the services. Like other skilled professions, anyone cannot be a Live In caregiver, One aught to have certain skills in order to become eligible for a caregiver program.

1. Caring for children   





What are the required skills?

  • Education;           Minimum Grade 12 
  • Experience:         1 Year or more in a day care, pre-school or up to middle school setup. 
  • English/French:  CLB 5 

2. Caring for people with high medical needs




What are the required skills?

  • Education;          Grade 12  
  • Experience :       1 Year or more in caring and support services for elders
  • English/French: CLB 5 


The following professions are highly acceptable for the Program  

  •  Registered Nurses ( Psychiatric Nurses, Specialized Nurses , Pediatric Nurses)  
  • Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Nursery Teacher  Training ( NTT) Teachers
  • Early Childhood Educators
  • Teachers with Bachelors of Education and teaching students till middle school
  • Professionals who have completed Nanny Program and working in either schools or day care centers.

How to Apply ?

1. Complete the educational, work and language skills requirement mentioned above.
2. A job contract from eligible employer in Canada, who needs support from caregivers.
3. A positive or neutral Labour Market Impact Assessment report 
4. A valid passport or a travel document 
5. Preparation of interview from employer or Canadian High Commission

Does this program lead to Permanent Residency?

Yes. The Temporary work permit allows you to work in Canada and you become eligible to apply for PR 
  • after completing 24 months of full time employment in last 48 months period. ( Full time ; Min 30 hours per week). 
  • Language ability CLB 5 as Live in Caregiver Childcare or higher CLB 7 if practicing as RN or LPN.
  • Minimum Educational requirements of a one year post secondary program either completed in Canada or overseas.
